About the work
Green Fairy Wand pairs a long, slender shaft with a rounded handle, where a red flower opens against the green surface. Its yellow center provides a bright point of contrast, while a carved stem and leaf carry the floral detail down the grip. The composition could be described as a botanical intervention in the language of enchantment, though “a flower on a fairy wand” remains available to visitors in a hurry.
The process begins with a rough length of wood and a thoroughly splintered end. In the carving view, the shaft has emerged while pencil lines map a flower and stem onto the unfinished handle. The left, right, and front views show the bare wood before completion: grain following the length, a knot interrupting the surface, and the flower standing proud of the grip.
The finished green color brings shaft and handle together, leaving the red petals to draw the eye. The pleasure is in that change from rough stock to something shaped for a hand and a little imagination. Its magical credentials are best assessed through enthusiastic waving rather than a curator’s statement.
